For a decade and a half, VCF has played a leading role in defining the province's field of social enterprise as a tool to build community and self-reliance. Social Enterprises — businesses operated by non-profit organizations for the dual purpose of generating income and achieving social, economic, or environmental goals — can be a creative vehicle for organizations to meet community needs in a financially sustainable way.
Not only have we helped leverage significant dollars, grown partnerships, and advocated for key policy changes, we've assisted hundreds of enterprises in creating positive impact in community. We're aware of the challenges of social enterprise models, but — at the end of the day —we believe in their value as a tool for enhancing sustainability.
Vancity Community Foundation invests in social enterprise planning, piloting, testing, and growth. In particular, we focus on social enterprises with high impact potential that create employment for people with barriers to employment, who provide needed products and services to underserved communities, or who offer innovative products or services that contribute to the development of sustainable local economies.
Our investments in social enterprise initiatives are considered on a case by case basis.
The project and/or projects must be located within BC and generally within the geographic area of Vancity branches including the following regions: Vancouver, Greater Vancouver & Lower Mainland, Fraser Valley, Sea to Sky, Capital Region, and Alert Bay.
