Black Philanthropy
Month
August is Black Philanthropy Month,
a global movement that recognizes the power of collective action in advancing equity, opportunity and wellbeing in Black communities.
The 2026 theme, now merged with Back Black, is Many Voices, One Movement. This reminds us that meaningful change happens when communities come together around a shared purpose.
Black Philanthropy Month celebrates Black leadership, generosity, innovation and the many ways communities come together to create change. It is an opportunity to recognize the individuals, organizations and movements advancing solutions, strengthening communities and building a more equitable future.
It is also a moment to reflect on persistent inequities. Despite their impact, Black-led organizations continue to receive less than 1% of philanthropic funding, as highlighted in the Unfunded Report, which underscores the need for more equitable investment in community-led solutions.
At Vancity Community Foundation (VCF), we believe philanthropy can help shift resources, strengthen relationships and support thriving communities. Building a more equitable future requires investing in the people and organizations driving change and supporting approaches rooted in community leadership.
