Surrey Homelessness & Housing Society (SHHS) has been working over the past 15 years as a leader and partner in the community by raising, managing and distributing funds to support programs, projects and initiatives that build capacity and make a difference in the lives of people who are homeless or at-risk in Surrey, BC. SHHS's mission is that everyone in Surrey has a home.
In 2007, the City of Surrey allocated $9 million from the City's Affordable Housing Reserve Fund to seed Surrey Homelessness & Housing Society. This was a response to the emerging trend of homelessness and lack of affordable housing in the City of Surrey. Since then, SHHS has invested over $10 million in over 150 projects, supporting community partners to create homes, maintain existing housing stock, and deliver programs for vulnerable individuals including children and youth.
